Bittern feeding in reedbeds

Sunday, 10 December 2006

Another first for our Group as we visited this Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve. With the weather in clement mode, it made for a pleasant walk around this large reserve, although birds seemed to be in short supply. There were good numbers of commoner wildfowl - 100+ Mallard and over 60 Gadwall for example - whilst woodland birds were seen in small numbers. The highlights of the day were two Willow Tits at the feeding station seen by most of our Group, and a Bittern seen by just a jammy few!
