Trip reports
Titchwell 16th March 2008

Wednesday, 2 April 2008
Rain and high winds greeted us on our arrival at Titchwell. The bad weather meant that, to start with, there were relatively few birds on the lagoons and viewing them meant staring into the driving rain. A few brave souls headed in the direction of the beach and sought shelter from the wind in the sand dunes. The sea was very choppy obscuring any birds on the sea. Red-breasted mergansers were present a little off-shore and, as well as numerous gulls, some gannets and manx shearwaters were glimpsed towards the horizon. As the rain cleared and the sea retreated waders appeared on the beach. The species seen included sanderling, grey plover, bar-tailed godwit and a soilitary knot. During the visit marsh harriers were seen quartering the reedbeds and late in the day some of the group witnessed a hen harrier squabbling with a peregrine.
